Suicide were among the first bands to perform with only vocals, synthesisers and drum machines, dispensing entirely with guitars and a traditional rhythm section. When supporting the Clash and Elvis Costello in the late 1970s, Suicide's confrontational performances often provoked hostile audiences, with Alan Vega sometimes performing amid flying bottles and other projectiles. Bruce Springsteen has cited Suicide's 'Dream Baby Dream' as a favourite song and regularly performed his own interpretation live, later releasing a studio version in 2014.
