Depeche Mode took their name from the French fashion magazine Dépêche Mode, meaning "fashion dispatch" or "fashion update". ### Following the departure of founding member Vince Clarke in 1981, Martin Gore became the band's primary songwriter, helping define their darker and more sophisticated sound. ### After the death of founding keyboardist Andy Fletcher in 2022, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore continued Depeche Mode as a duo, releasing the acclaimed album 'Memento Mori' in 2023.
