'Mr. Brightside' has become one of the most enduring songs of the streaming era, spending hundreds of weeks on the UK Singles Chart and remaining a fixture in popular culture more than two decades after its release. The band's name was inspired by the fictional group featured in the music video for New Order's 2001 single 'Crystal'.
