The Killers to perform at Champions League final in Budapest

The Killers have been confirmed to perform at the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest, Hungary, this May.

In a sign that European sport is following America’s lead by bringing Super Bowl-style entertainment to the biggest sporting occasions, the Las Vegas rock band will take to the stage before the biggest game in the European footballing calendar.

The game is scheduled to take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on May 30th. While The Killers have not detailed how long they will perform for, they have confirmed that ‘Mr Brightside’ will feature in their set during the Pepsi Kick Off Show.

Alicia Keys was the first act to perform at the Champions League final in 2016, with other acts to have had the honour, including Dua Lipa in 2018, which led to Liverpool fans adopting her hit ‘One Kiss’ as an anthem.

Last year, Linkin Park performed before the event. Meanwhile, Camila Cabello and Lenny Kravitz are also among the acts to have performed at the Pepsi Kick Off Show previously.

The Killers said of the honour, “When we were asked to perform at the UEFA Champions League Final Kick Off Show presented by Pepsi, we said yes without hesitation, some stages speak for themselves. We’re honored to celebrate the incredible teams and players at what will undoubtedly be an epic match.”

Apart from their performance at the UEFA Champions League final, The Killers don’t have any further European dates in their calendar for 2026.

It has now been five years since they released a studio album. However, earlier this year, frontman Brandon Flowers said in regards to the Las Vegas rockers’ return, “My best guess is that in 2027 you will get the best Killers record.”

He also divulged that his recent creativity has been poured into his solo career, with Flowers sharing, “I have two records complete. One is almost mixed. The other will follow shortly. I’m trying to decide how this is going to work logistically.”
