The Killers’ Brandon Flowers taking country turn on first solo album in 11 years, ‘Thrasher’
Brandon Flowers has announced his first solo album in some 11 years, titled Thrasher.
The Killers frontman has been keeping things quiet over the past number of years, with the band’s last album, Pressure Machine, having been released in 2021.
They have toured extensively in that five-year break from the studio, but now Flowers has unveiled a return on his own solo frontier, taking on a new opportunity of country music for the album Thrasher, which is set to arrive in August.
Having been teasing the project on his social media for a number of days, Flowers officially unveiled the album in a trailer video posted to Instagram on June 23rd, in which he reflected on what has brought him to country music as a step away from rock and roll.
“Two things can be true at the same time: the fact that I love new wave and rock and roll has been well-documented, but a life is long enough to allow for more,” he poetically began.
Going on to reference the Walt Whitman quote “I contain multitudes”, the singer added, “I’ve unlocked a room that feels like it’s been waiting for me all along – country and western music. My father’s music. It has offered itself to me and the stories I have to tell at the moment with a breezy enthusiasm.”
The press release for the album reveals that although it was recorded in the country music home of Nashville, Tennessee, the songs on the record are heavily influenced by the roots of Flowers’ upbringing in Utah.
The musician also said as part of the album announcement that the first single, ‘Plans’, is set for release on June 26th.
Thrasher is set to arrive as Flowers’ third solo effort outside of The Killers, following on from his debut Flamingo in 2010, and The Desired Effect in 2015.
Flowers had previously hinted towards the new venture of the album in an interview with The Sun back in January, where he revealed that he has recorded two solo albums. It is not known when the other potential project could be released.
With regard to the future of The Killers, he said at the time, “My best guess is that in 2027 you will get the best Killers record.”
Thrasher is set for release on August 21st, 2026.
