The greatest director of all time, according to Clint Eastwood: “He knew more about filmmaking than anybody”
High praise coming from him.

Sergio Leone was an Italian filmmaker, producer and screenwriter whose visionary approach transformed the western genre and influenced generations of directors. Best known for pioneering the spaghetti western, Leone developed a distinctive cinematic style characterised by sweeping landscapes, extreme close-ups, prolonged tension and memorable collaborations with composer Ennio Morricone.
His ‘Dollars Trilogy’, starring Clint Eastwood, redefined the western through films including ‘A Fistful of Dollars’, ‘For a Few Dollars More’ and ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. Leone later expanded his scope with the epic ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ and the crime masterpiece ‘Once Upon a Time in America’. Widely regarded as one of cinema’s greatest auteurs, his influence can be seen in the work of filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan.
