Jack White is a musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer from Detroit, Michigan. He was born in 1975 as John Anthony Gillis. White rose to prominence as the lead vocalist and guitarist of The White Stripes, a rock duo he formed with his then-wife Meg White in 1997. He is also a member of other bands, including The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
White’s music is heavily influenced by blues, country, and rock ‘n’ roll. He is celebrated for his raw and passionate guitar playing and his distinctive, high-pitched singing voice. White is also known for his love of using vintage equipment and instruments.
White began his music career in the late 1990s as a session musician in Detroit. In 1997, he formed The White Stripes with his then-wife Meg White. The band quickly gained a following in the Detroit music scene and released their eponymous debut album, ‘The White Stripes,’ in 1999. The album received critical acclaim and helped the band gain national attention.
Over the next decade, White released several more albums with The White Stripes, including ‘White Blood Cells,’ and ‘Elephant.’ The latter album was particularly commercially successful, earning the band several Grammy nominations and a win for ‘Best Alternative Music Album.
In addition to his work with The White Stripes, White has also released music with other bands. In 2006, he formed The Raconteurs with Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler. Their debut album, ‘Broken Boy Soldiers,’ included the hit track ‘Steady As She Goes’. White has also been a member of The Dead Weather since 2009.
White’s solo career began in 2012 with the release of his debut album, ‘Blunderbuss.’ The LP was a critical and commercial success, earning White several Grammy nominations. He has since released several more solo albums, including ‘Lazaretto’ and ‘Boarding House Reach.’
His music has earned him several awards and accolades, including twelve Grammy Awards. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice as a member of The White Stripes.
Outside of his recording career, White owns his own record label, Third Man Records, which is based in Nashville.
