The Kinks are “getting on great” and say “never say never” to potential reunion
The Kinks‘ Ray and Dave Davies have opened up about their relationship, as well as discussing a possible reunion.
The Davies brothers recently announced a new exhibition, titled Brothers, which will be shown at the Gibson Garage in London between July 24th and September 6th.
For Brothers, they have teamed up with painter Christian Furr, who has reimagined an iconic shoot in 1968 that saw the Davies brothers cram into a photobooth in East Finchley as a new series of paintings.
Now, they have spoken to The Times ahead of the opening of the exhibition, with Dave admitting, “There were times where I couldn’t stand him”, but saying their relationship is “built on trust, although we hated each other.”
Thankfully, the hatred is ancient history now, and the Davies brothers are back on the same page, with Dave saying, “It’s miraculous, really, how, we’ve become so bonded.”
Furr’s work has also brought them together, with Ray admitting that he was brought to tears by seeing his reimagining of the classic photograph of him and his brother, admitting, “It made me think, ‘What the hell are we doing?'”
Dave agreed that Furr further advanced their relationship, sharing, “We were getting on great. We have fluctuated between getting on really well and not getting on at all over the years but there’s always been telepath, since childhood.”
It has now been more than a decade since they last shared a stage together, but the duo did spend time in the studio in 2019, and while there are no plans, at this stage, to reunite, Dave said, “I don’t know, but never say never.”
Similarly, when probed about another potential art project, he replied, “I don’t like to think about that.” However, Dave’s partner, Rebecca Wilson, added, which should give fans optimism, “Dave doesn’t like to put the mockers on things.”
Previously, in 2022, Dave stated he hoped that The Kinks would reunite, sharing, “Ray and I have spoken about it – it’s possible!”
Their new exhibition is set to run in London until September.
