Dave Davies created the iconic distorted guitar sound on 'You Really Got Me' by slashing the speaker cone of his amplifier with a razor blade. Although best known as The Kinks' lead guitarist, Davies also wrote and sang several of the band's best-loved songs, including 'Death of a Clown' and 'Strangers'. In 2004, Davies suffered a stroke shortly after promoting his autobiography but made a remarkable recovery and returned to recording and performing.
