The Stone Roses are an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1983 by vocalist Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire. Widely regarded as one of the most influential British bands of their generation, they fused indie rock, psychedelic rock, dance music and 1960s pop to help define the Madchester movement and the rise of Britpop. Their self-titled 1989 debut album is considered one of the greatest British albums of all time, featuring classics such as ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, ‘She Bangs the Drums’ and ‘I Am the Resurrection’. Although their original recording career was brief, the Stone Roses’ impact on alternative rock has endured, inspiring bands including Oasis, Blur, Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys.
