Stereolab are an Anglo-French experimental rock band formed in London in 1990 by Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative groups of the 1990s, they blend krautrock, lounge music, French ye-yé, bossa nova, jazz, electronica, avant-pop and psychedelic pop into a distinctive sound characterised by hypnotic rhythms, vintage analogue synthesisers and dual-language vocals. Albums including ‘Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements’, ‘Emperor Tomato Ketchup’, ‘Dots and Loops’, ‘Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night’ and ‘Sound-Dust’ established Stereolab as pioneers of experimental indie music. Following a hiatus between 2009 and 2019, the band reunited for live performances and have continued to influence generations of alternative and electronic artists.
