The 1992 album that left Tom Waits in awe: “His last major work”
“Frank reigns and rules with the strangest tools.”

Captain Beefheart was an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to experimental rock. Born Don Van Vliet, he developed a fiercely original style that fused blues, free jazz, avant-garde composition and surreal poetry into music that challenged conventional rock structures.
Backed by his ever-changing Magic Band, he released a series of influential albums, most notably ‘Trout Mask Replica’, which is widely regarded as one of the most innovative records in popular music history. Although his work achieved limited commercial success during his recording career, Captain Beefheart became a major influence on punk, post-punk, alternative rock and experimental music. He retired from music in the early 1980s to focus on painting, earning considerable acclaim as a visual artist.
