Police share important information for Oasis at Heaton Park: “Safety is our main priority”
Police in the Bury area have issued a dispersal order for Heaton Park and all surrounding areas until 02:00 on July 12th, as Oasis are set to play for 80,000 fans at 20:15 on July 11th.
The Britpop brothers are bringing their huge reunion tour right back to where it all started with five humongous gigs in Manchester’s Heaton Park. This will mark their first appearance in Manchester since they played three shows at the same venue in 2009, following on from two shows in Cardiff last week.
The post on Facebook read: “There is a S34 dispersal in place for Heaton Park and surrounding areas until 2am tomorrow – there is no immediate risk but safety is our main priority; officers can ask anyone to leave the area if they are engaging in, or likely to engage in, anti-social behaviour.” They have also posted a map of the area surrounding Heaton Park, with the area in which the dispersal order applies to highlighted in red.
In addition to this, Manchester City Council have expressed safety fears about ticket-less fans trying to sneak into Heaton Park, which would stretch it beyond its maximum capacity. They revealed to fans attempting to sneak in that the event will be “double-walled with solid high security fencing all the way round and in excess of 2,000 event security staff and police officers on duty around the site to ensure both the safety and wellbeing of ticketholders and that only those who have tickets access the concert.”
Extreme weather is another concern, one that the Gallagher brothers have addressed. Taking to social media, Oasis told their fans: “Please prepare for extreme sun and heat. Wear sunscreen. Stay hydrated at the concert and when travelling. Wear a (bucket) hat. Where possible, stay in the shade. Look after yourself and look after each other.”
The police’s attempt to curb anti-social behaviour is a sentiment previously shared by the Edinburgh council, in a safety briefing created ahead of the three sold-out Oasis shows set to hit Murrayfield in August. Liam Gallagher hit back at the remarks that deemed Oasis fans “rowdy” with a tweet that read, “To the Edinburgh council I’ve heard what you said about OASIS fans and quite frankly your attitude fucking stinks I’d leave town that day if I was any of you lot.”
Oasis will take to the stage at 20:15 and are expected to perform for two hours.
