Oasis send “severe” message to fans attending Heaton Park amid extreme weather

With hours to go until doors open at Heaton Park in Manchester, Oasis have issued a warning to fans about the extreme weather.

The temperature is expected to reach highs of 28 degrees later today in Manchester, and it will also hit the same sky-high temperature tomorrow when Oasis play the second of their five scheduled shows at Heaton Park.

As a result of the conditions, which could be dangerous for revellers, SJM, the promoters behind the Oasis reunion, told fans earlier this week to “please stay hydrated” and confirmed “you will be permitted to bring a sealed bottle of water up to 500ml” which must be collapsible plastic.

They also confirmed there will be free refill stations across the Heaton Park site, however, solid plastic or metal containers will not be permitted on the grounds of safety and bottles with broken seals will be emptied.

Now, Oasis have sent their own message to fans, which begins, “Severe weather advice Friday and Saturday – Heaton Park.”

The advice continued: “Please prepare for extreme sun and heat. Wear sun screen. Stay hydrated at the concert and when travelling. Wear a (bucket) hat. Where possible stay in the shade. Look after yourself and look after each other.”

Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement they will “will have a large and highly visible policing operation in place in Heaton Park, the City Centre and on routes into and out of the venue to help people enjoy the event” and encouraged those attending to “remain vigilant”.

Doors open for all of the Heaton Park shows at 15:00 with music set to begin at 18:00 when Cast take to the stage. Then, at 19:00, The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft will perform before Oasis finally return to Manchester after 16 years away at 20:15.

Fans, thousands of which are travelling from across the world, arriving at Heaton Park by tram will be greeted by the familiar voice of Liam Gallagher as they reach their destination. Earlier this week, Mayor Andy Burnham celebrated Gallagher’s involvement, noting: “It’s brilliant that Liam is lending his legendary vocals to the Bee Network once again and I’d urge everyone to listen out for them when getting off the tram at Heaton Park for the gigs.”
