The Greatest Mentors: The five musicians who gave the world to Noel Gallagher
Inventing his brand of rock and roll.
In 1967, Noel Gallagher was born in Manchester. His first taste of the music industry came when he joined the Inspiral Carpets as their guitar technician in 1990 and toured the world with the band over the next two years.
Working with Inspiral Carpets provided Noel with a glimpse into the life of a rockstar, and upon leaving the job, he joined the band of his brother, Liam. At the time, they were called The Rain but later changed their name to Oasis and signed a deal with Creation Records in 1993.
Their debut album, ‘Definitely Maybe’, was released in 1994 and included the hits, ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Live Forever’. Oasis’ second album, ‘What’s The Story (Morning Glory)’, featuring ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, cemented their status as Britain’s biggest band.
In 1996, the group broke further records as 2.6 million people attempted to buy tickets for their concerts at Knebworth Park, which went down in history. Oasis released five more albums before splitting up in 2009 after a backstage fight between Noel and Liam in Paris. In total, Oasis have sold over 70 million records worldwide.
Following the end of Oasis, he began releasing music as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and shared the eponymous debut album in 2011, which has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. It was followed by 2015’s Chasing Yesterday, which also went to number one in the United Kingdom.
