Oasis share official recording of ‘Slide Away’ from Cardiff reunion show
When Oasis made their long-awaited return after 16 years apart to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on July 4th, 75,000 fans were there to cheer them on. Now, they’ve released the recording of their performance of ‘Slide Away’ so fans can hear how good the comeback really sounds.
On July 4th, Oasis opened with ‘Hello’ and went into a range of classic tracks including ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’, ‘Masterplan’ and a touching tribute to the late footballer Diogo Jota during their performance of ‘Live Forever’. The Liverpool player had married his long-term partner only days earlier, and sadly lost his life, alongside his brother Andre Silva, following a car crash in Spain.
‘Slide Away’ was the sixteenth track the brothers performed, nestled in between ‘Cast No Shadow’ and ‘Whatever’. In the recording, the general hubbub of the crowd conversing is captured before the main guitar riff silences any disinterest. The song opens with the lyrics, ‘Slide away and give it all you’ve got / My today fell in from the top / I dream of you and all the things you say / I wonder where you are now?’
For their two shows in Cardiff, Oasis performed the same set on both nights. This suggests the order will stay this way for the entirety of the tour. Their set relied heavily on material from their early years, apart from ‘Little By Little’, which is the only post-2000 Oasis song that made the cut.
The Gallagher brothers were joined by Gem Archer, Andy Bell, Bonehead, and Joey Waronker. The encore consisted of ‘The Masterplan’, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Champagne Supernova’.
The Britpop brothers will next perform at Manchester’s Heaton Park, which has a larger capacity of 80,000. The cast will begin the show at 18:00, while Richard Ashcroft will take to the stage at 19:00. Liam and Noel are set to arrive at 20:15 and play a two-hour show.
Since the initial announcement of UK and Irish dates in August of last year, the Gallagher brothers have also confirmed shows in North America, South America, Australia, and now East Asia.
