Oasis perform surprise Beatles cover at triumphant second night in Cardiff
Oasis came back with a swing on their second night after 16 years apart, and even threw a quick Beatles cover into the set for good measure.
Playing at Principality Stadium in Cardiff on July 4th and 5th, Oasis performed for a total of 150,000 fans, who packed into the space to see the miraculous reunion play out in front of their very eyes. During the second show, the brothers took the stage holding hands.
On both nights, Oasis opened with ‘Hello’ and went into a range of classic tracks including ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ and ‘Supersonic’. During their performance of ‘Live Forever’ on the first night, the band included a touching tribute to footballer Diogo Jota, a 28-year-old who lost his life alongside his brother in a car crash in Spain.
As they played their seventeenth track, ‘Whatever’, Oasis slid into a small snippet of ‘Octopus Garden’ by The Beatles. This was the first time they had played the tune together live since 2001. However, Liam Gallagher sang it on his ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour.
Their four-song encore ran through ‘The Masterplan’, into ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, sliding into the anthem ‘Wonderwall’ and finished with ‘Champagne Supernova’. Noel and Liam bowed to one another as they entered the stage and embraced on their departure.
The Britpop brothers will next head for several dates at Heaton Park in Manchester, Wembley Stadium in London, Croke Park in Dublin, and Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Over 14 million fans had attempted to buy tickets for the UK run alone, and ticket scams had cost potential attendees over £2million.
Since the initial announcement of UK and Irish dates back in August, the Gallagher brothers have also confirmed shows in North America, South America, Australia, and now East Asia.
