Watch Oasis play ‘Live Forever’ for the first time in 16 years and pay tribute to Diogo Jota

It finally happened. Oasis returned to almost 75,000 screaming fans in Cardiff’s Principality Stadium to effortlessly reclaim the Brit-pop throne.

Considering their last live performance together was 16 years ago, the Brit-pop brothers had much to prove, and everything to lose. Over 14million fans had attempted to buy tickets for the UK run alone, and ticket scams had cost potential attendees over £2million.

The show was nothing short of a miracle. Oasis opened with ‘Hello’ and went into a range of classic tracks including ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’, ‘Masterplan’ and a touching tribute to footballer Diogo Jota during their performance of ‘Live Forever’.

When the band finally played the beautiful track, the crowd was surely faint of heart, though they were screaming as loudly and ecstatically as ever. ‘Live Forever’ has found itself used in many tributes over the years, but with the news of the sad passing of Jota it seemed only right that the group laid a sonic wreath.

The Liverpool player, Jota, who had been married only days earlier, sadly lost his life, alongside his brother Andre Silva, following a car crash in Spain. The death of the 28-year-old has reverberated around the football world.

Oasis will play another show in Cardiff on July 5th before playing several dates at Heaton Park in Manchester, Wembley Stadium in London, Croke Park in Dublin, and Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

Since the initial announcement of UK and Irish dates back in August, the Gallagher brothers have also confirmed shows in North America, South America, Australia, and now East Asia.
