Ticket-less Oasis fans urged not to travel to Heaton Park
Manchester City Council have urged Oasis fans who don’t have a ticket to Heaton Park to stay in the city centre.
Doors open for all of the Heaton Park shows at 15:00 with music set to begin at 18:00 when Cast take to the stage. Then, at 19:00, The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft will perform before Oasis finally return to Manchester after 16 years away at 20:15.
Oasis are playing a total of five shows at Heaton Park, marking their first appearance in Manchester since they played three shows at the same venue in 2009, and 400,000 will be in attendance to witness the spectacular homecoming.
While 80,000 tickets have been sold for each show, Manchester City Council have expressed safety fears about ticket-less fans trying to sneak into Heaton Park, which would stretch it beyond it’s maximum capacity.
In a new statement, they said: “Music fans who don’t have tickets shouldn’t travel to Heaton Park – they should come instead to the city centre and enjoy what’s on offer there”.
The message continued: “There are no facilities for them at the park and they will not be able to see the concert or get into the event arena – which is double-walled with solid high security fencing all the way round and in excess of 2,000 event security staff and police officers on duty around the site to ensure both the safety and wellbeing of ticketholders and that only those who have tickets access the concert.”
Additionally, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement earlier this week they will “will have a large and highly visible policing operation in place in Heaton Park, the City Centre and on routes into and out of the venue to help people enjoy the event” and encouraged those attending to “remain vigilant”.
The extreme weather is another concern, which has been addressed by the band. Taking to social media, Oasis told their fans: “Please prepare for extreme sun and heat. Wear sun screen. Stay hydrated at the concert and when travelling. Wear a (bucket) hat. Where possible stay in the shade. Look after yourself and look after each other.”
Oasis are expected to perform for two hours.
