Bono says Noel Gallagher “shocked” by how good Oasis sound ahead of reunion

Bono has said Noel Gallagher has told him he is “shocked” by how well the rehearsals for the Oasis reunion tour are going, as it is set to kick off in a matter of weeks.

The U2 frontman was telling Apple Music about his relationship with Oasis in a recent interview, saying: “I’m still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he’s kind of shocked by how great the band is. I think we’re going to have a good summer.”

Rehearsals for the much-anticipated UK leg of the tour are evidently well underway ahead of the opening night at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on July 4th, marking Oasis’ first return to the stage in some 16 years.

Before the Gallagher brothers grace the cultural zeitgeist again, however, Bono explained just what power they hold over the music industry. “I love them. I just love them,” he said.

“And what I really love is, the preciousness that had gotten into indie music, they just blew it out. There was just the swagger, and the sound of getting out of the ghetto, not glamourising it,” Bono added.

The fellow frontman’s comments come during a series of new projects, including a new documentary and album both called Stories of Surrender, which was released on May 30th.

Meanwhile, Oasis preparations have been marred by a leaked document from Edinburgh Council which branded the band’s fans as “middle-aged” and “rowdy” ahead of their stint in the Scottish capital in August. Liam Gallager hit back by saying the council’s “attitude fucking stinks”.

However, it seems that despite the summer of Oasis resurgence on the horizon, they are not set to stop there, with European dates for 2026 rumoured to be lined up.
