The band's name, "Yo La Tengo" ("I have it" in Spanish), was inspired by a baseball anecdote involving New York Mets players Richie Ashburn and Elio Chacón, who collided after misunderstanding each other's calls for a fly ball. Since 1986, Yo La Tengo have performed an annual Hanukkah residency in the New York area, featuring surprise guests and raising money for charitable causes, making it one of indie rock's most beloved live traditions. In addition to their studio work, the band have composed numerous film scores and soundtracks, collaborating with filmmakers including Kelly Reichardt, Noah Baumbach and Nicole Holofcener.
