Five new artists to rival The Strokes
For fans of.
The Strokes are an American rock band comprised of Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond Jr, Nikolai Fraiture, and Fabrizio Moretti. Formed in New York City in 1998, the band quickly gained critical acclaim at the turn of the century and became pioneers of the garage rock revival movement, bringing indie back into the mainstream.
The group drew inspiration from diverse musical influences, including The Velvet Underground. Their sound was notable for Casablancas’ distinctively gritty vocals, Valensi and Hammond Jr’s interweaving guitar lines, Fraiture’s melodic bass, and Moretti’s tight drumming.
The Strokes’ debut album, ‘Is This It,’ released in 2001, instantly propelled them into the limelight and made them the coolest rock band in the world. Over 20 years later, the LP is seen as a classic thanks to tracks such as ‘Last Nite,’ ‘Someday,’ and ‘Hard to Explain’ which became instant fan favourites, earning the band critical accolades.
Building on their initial success, The Strokes continued to release acclaimed albums, each showcasing their evolving musical maturity. ‘Room on Fire’ further cemented their status as indie rock trailblazers. It also inspired a generation of indie bands, including Arctic Monkeys.
While subsequent releases, ‘Angles’ and ‘Comedown Machine’, were less well received, The Strokes have continued pushing the boundaries of their sound while maintaining their distinctive Strokes essence.
The Strokes’ music exuded a sense of coolness and nonchalance, capturing the essence of early 2000s indie rock. Their 2020 album ‘The New Abnormal’ was widely viewed as a return to form for the band and was produced by Rick Rubin.
Throughout their career, The Strokes have headlined major festivals worldwide and are known for their electric live performances.
Their impact on indie rock and their ability to capture the spirit of a generation make them an iconic band that continues to inspire and entertain audiences to this day.
