Stewart Copeland was born in Alexandria, Virginia, to Miles Copeland Jr, a CIA officer and intelligence consultant, and Lorraine Adie Copeland, an archaeologist. Raised in the Middle East, he spent much of his childhood in Cairo and Beirut. He has four siblings, including music executive Miles Copeland III and Ian Copeland, who became influential concert promoters. Copeland married Fiona Dent in 1982, and they have three children together. He also has children from a previous marriage.
