Spacemen 3 were an English alternative rock band formed in Rugby, Warwickshire, in 1982 by Pete Kember (Sonic Boom) and Jason Pierce (J. Spaceman). Renowned for their hypnotic blend of psychedelic rock, drone, garage rock and space rock, the band became pioneers of the neo-psychedelia movement. Their minimalist approach, famously described by the slogan ‘Taking drugs to make music to take drugs to’, earned them a devoted cult following. Albums including The Perfect Prescription, Playing with Fire and Recurring are widely regarded as landmarks of British alternative music.
