Spiritualized’s Jason Pierce addresses Spacemen 3 reunion talk
Spiritualized’s Jason Pierce has emphatically shut down any talk of bringing back shoegaze pioneers Spacemen 3.
Pierce, who works under the moniker J. Spaceman, co-fronted and founded alternative rock band Spacemen 3 alongside Peter Kember in 1982. The band went on to earn a cult following during the 80s before the band split in 1991 following a difficult relationship between the pair.
Talk of a reunion circles on a regular basis and Pierce admitted that he turned down a £2million offer to get the band back together. Now, while in conversations with Consequence of Sound’s Kyle Meredith he said he’s “not so bothered to find out” if the band still has any of its previous chemistry and isn’t curious to see if they can work together again.
“Why?” he responded when asked about a potential reunion. “I just don’t see the point. I find it really difficult as to why.
“It’s a weird one because I’m not wild about anything that’s, like, people just replaying their [old music]. I’m not so against other people doing it,” he continued before adding “but I don’t see me doing it” with what will be a dagger to the hearts of all Spacemen 3 fans.
