“No cultural or social ethic”: The 1970s band Grace Slick struggled to enjoy
Hated being a sell-out.

Jefferson Airplane were an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1965. Widely regarded as one of the defining groups of the psychedelic rock movement, they emerged as a central force in the city’s countercultural scene during the Summer of Love.
Led by distinctive vocalists Grace Slick and Marty Balin, the band fused folk rock, blues and psychedelic experimentation on influential albums including ‘Surrealistic Pillow’, ‘After Bathing at Baxter’s’ and ‘Volunteers’. Best known for timeless songs such as ‘Somebody to Love’ and ‘White Rabbit’, Jefferson Airplane helped bring the San Francisco sound into the mainstream.
Following their dissolution in the early 1970s, many members went on to form Jefferson Starship and later Starship.

“Some stuff just grabs you…”
