System of a Down’s guitarist blames Oasis for England’s World Cup defeat to Argentina
System of a Down are not ones to let go of a grudge easily, again firing shots at Oasis during their second show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
This week, the metal band were in London for two huge shows, and guitarist Daron Malakian made sure to call out Oasis at each show.
On the first night, while introducing their track, ‘Needles’, he told the crowd, “London, do you have an ass? I said, do you have an ass? We have a little song about a tapeworm. Just for fun today, I’m going to name the tapeworm ‘Oasis’.”
He then attempted to lead the crowd through a chant of “pull Oasis out your ass”, before they roared into ‘Needles’.
Then, on the second night of their return to London on July 15th, which coincided with England’s loss to Argentina in the World Cup semi-final, Malakian couldn’t resist another sly dig at Oasis.
During the show, Malakian told the crowd, in footage which has since emerged on social media, “If you guys lose, I blame Oasis.”
In the largely one-sided feud, Malakian also took a shot at Oasis in 2025 when System of a Down’s US tour saw them play Soldier Field in Chicago after the Mancunian band.
Taking to social media, Malakian shared a photo of himself outside the stadium, pictured with a digitally altered sign that read, “Fuck Oasis.”
Seemingly, Malakian is still unhappy with comments made by Noel Gallagher more than 25 years ago, when he spoke disparagingly about System of a Down during an American radio interview.
Noel once remarked to radio station KROQ in 2001: “Do you ever look at the sky and think, I’m glad I’m alive? After I heard System of a Down, I thought, I’m actually alive to hear the shittiest band of all time.”
His attack continued, “Which is quite something when you think about it. Of all the bands that have gone before and all the bands that’ll be in the future, I was around when the worst was around.”
All these years later, and it seems that Gallagher’s comments have still touched a nerve.
