Phoebe Bridgers picks up where she left off on first single, ‘Lost Boys’
After lifting the curtain on Lost Weekend, her first solo album in six years, Phoebe Bridgers has shared its lead single, ‘Lost Boys’.
For the release of her first solo song in four years, she has enlisted plenty of famous faces: Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Caroline Shaw are on vocals, while Alex G is on drums and voice memo, and Jack Antonoff is on electric guitar, synths, drums, and vocoder.
Further still, Bright Eyes’ Nate Walcott plays the trumpet on the track, while Blake Mills plays synths, Chris Thile plays mandolin, and Christian Lee Hutson plays acoustic guitar.
Bridgers picks up on the idea of youth, restlessness, and alienation as she begins the comeback track, “On a motorbike, doing 90 in a 55 to another life.”
To support the single, she has released a music video directed by Lance Oppenheim and Pablo Rochat, in which she plays an elf in a Renaissance-style live-action video game. It also stars Superman actor Skyler Gisondo.
Bridgers has been teasing her forthcoming album with plenty of cryptic activity; the first word came through several surprise pop-up shows, including a phone-free affair at Madison Square Garden, where she played eight new songs.
The star has also planned out a forthcoming tour, which will maintain her desire for intimate experiences as all the arena shows, spanning across the UK, US, and Europe, will be entirely device-free using Yondr pouches.
Bridgers is also set to kick off her acting career, outside of her elfish deceit in the new music video, alongside Robert Pattinson in A24’s new efilm, To Catch a Predator, which chronicles the infamous 2000s TV program of the same name.
Lost Weekend, which follows on from Bridger’s critically-acclaimed 2020 album Punisher, is set to arrive on August 14th.
