Watch Robert Pattinson play Chris Hansen in new Lance Oppenheim trailer, ‘Primetime’

Beyond his recent appearance in The Drama, Robert Pattinson is taking on another A24 movie; this time, he will play To Catch a Predator‘s Chris Hansen in Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime.

Ever the fan of an accent, Pattinson’s British drawl is unrecognisable in the new trailer from A24 as he plays the broadcast journalist who set out to change television history in the mid 2000s.

Oppenheim is best known as a documentary filmmaker who has gathered a cult following for his stylistic approach, evidenced in works like Ren Faire and Some Kind of Heaven.

This will be Oppenheim’s narrative feature debut, and marks Pattinson’s first full-feature producing credit. It will also be singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers’ acting debut.

The original show that inspired the movie saw Hansen and his crew collaborate with law enforcement to arrest paedophiles on camera. The operation included a team of decoys pretending to be minors online.

Throughout the ominous trailer, Pattinson asks a barrage of questions familiar to anyone who had seen the programme back in the day: “What would have happened if I wasn’t here? You see how this looks, right? At the end of the day, a man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Would you agree?”

He adds, “Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC — and you’re able to be a part of television history.”

The film, which will also star Merritt Wever and Skyler Gisondo, will hit theatres this fall, though no specific date has been announced thus far.

Before Primetime, Pattinson fans can see the star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey. Additionally, the Twilight breakout star will return to his iconic superhero role in The Batman Part II, set for release on October 1st, 2027.
