Paramore are “freshly independent” after leaving Atlantic Records
Following speculation around their future, Paramore have confirmed they are now an independent band after leaving Atlantic Records.
In December, Paramore fuelled rumours by wiping their social media accounts and cancelling scheduled performances. Furthermore, they were recently set to play a series of festivals in South America, but were replaced by Kings of Leon.
However, Paramore have now reassured fans and revealed they plan to continue as an independent group. Their first step in their new chapter is to act as ambassadors for Record Store Day, which is set to take place on April 20th.
Taking to social media, Hayley Williams, Zac Farro and Taylor Yorke wrote: “After a long career in the music industry we have decided to announce that… we are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience).”
Paramore added: “Our first order of business as a freshly independent Paramore is to shine a light on independent records stores — a vital part of our journey from music obsessed school friends to professional music makers. With that being said, we are humbled to be your Ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024. The timing feels kismet.”
The message continued: “The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic. Indie record shops are some of the only spaces we’ve got that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy.”
The trio signed off their message by proudly writing, “Independently yours, Paramore”.
Meanwhile, the group recently took home the coveted award for ‘Best Rock Album’ at the Grammys for their latest studio record, This Is Why. They beat off competition from Foo Fighters for But Here We Are, Greta Van Fleet for Starcatcher, Metallica with 72 Seasons, and Queens of the Stone Age’s In Times New Roman.
