Oasis manager rules out chances of new album or more tours: “This is very much the last time around”
Oasis co-manager Alec McKinlay has confirmed the band has no plans to release another album, and their upcoming reunion tour will be a victory lap.
It is now less than two months until Oasis are finally reunited on stage in Cardiff, which is scheduled to begin on July 4th at the Millennium Stadium. Preparations are now in full swing, with rehearsals believed to start this month, before the Gallagher brothers take to the road for the most highly anticipated tour of the decade, which sold out in record time.
In a new interview with Music Week, McKinlay, who co-runs Ignition Management with Marcus Russell, said of the upcoming set of dates: “This is very much the last time around, as Noel’s made clear in the press. It’s a chance for fans who haven’t seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to.”
McKinlay also ruled out the possibility of another album by Oasis in the future, adding, “But no, there’s no plan for any new music.”
He also provided a glimpse behind the curtain at how they successfully managed to keep the reunion under wraps, sharing, “The group of people who knew about it in advance was very limited. We were working with people we trusted.”
The Ignition Management partner admitted it was a “little bit of a step into the unknown in terms of how big the reaction would be”, but he was blown away by the “phenomenal” positivity surrounding the news.
The 41-date world tour is sold out, and although McKinlay wasn’t surprised by the scale of demand in the UK, he said the “most pleasing surprise” was the international reaction, revealing, “We could have sold out half-a-dozen Rose Bowls in Pasadena and probably eight MetLife stadiums in New York in a day. We saw the ticket stats, we were watching what was happening and the demand was way beyond our expectations.”
McKinlay’s comments come after Liam Gallagher revealed earlier this week that their setlist has now been decided ahead of the first show back in July.
In response to a fan requesting Oasis to perform ‘Hey Now’ at the shows, Liam broke the sad news that it won’t be played, sharing, “The setlist is done and I’m afraid it didn’t make it now don’t take it personally and call me hurty names as it’s not my fault we can’t play them all”.
In another recent update, Noel Gallagher appeared on TalkSPORT last month to share an insight into Oasis’ preparation. He said: “I’m in the studio just noodling around. We’re getting ready for rehearsals to start now in about three weeks, and then, yeah, we’ll see what happens.”
