Oasis dedicate ‘Live Forever’ to Minneapolis shooting victims at New Jersey show
During their performance at the MetLife Stadium on August 31st, Oasis poignantly paid tribute to the shooting victims in Minneapolis.
Their ongoing North American tour began last week at the Rogers Stadium in Toronto, before moving on to Soldier Field in Chicago, and they are now at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
During their most recent show, frontman Liam Gallagher told the crowd before they played the classic track, “I want to dedicate this next tune to the kiddies in Minneapolis. ‘Live Forever’.”
On August 27th, a shooter carried out a horrific attack as students waited outside the Minneapolis Catholic School for morning mass. Tragically, two children were killed and a further 18 were injured in the incident.
Pope Leo used his Sunday service to condemn the attack, stating, “Let us plead [to] God to stop the pandemic of arms large and small which infects our world.”
He also offered his “prayers for the victims of the tragic shooting during a school Mass in the American state of Minnesota,” along with the “countless children” who have lost their lives or been injured by guns.
Throughout their tour, Oasis have used ‘Live Forever‘ as a way to pay tribute to those who have sadly departed the world. At their first show back in Cardiff, they honoured the late Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota with the heartfelt track, and also celebrated Ozzy Osbourne with ‘Live Forever’ at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Oasis will continue their North American tour with another show at the MetLife Stadium tonight (September 1st), before moving to the East Coast for two concerts at the Rose Bowl in California on September 6th and September 7th.
The Gallagher brothers will then stop off in Mexico City for two shows ahead of concluding their UK dates with two final Wembley Stadium concerts. They will round out the year with shows in Asia and Australia.
