Roll with it: Oasis begrudgingly inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Phil Collins and Billy Idol
The inductees for this year’s class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been revealed, with Oasis begrudgingly making the line-up alongside the likes of Phil Collins and Billy Idol.
Liam Gallagher had previously led a campaign for the Britpop legends not to be inducted into the Rock Hall, calling it at various times “embarrassing” and thanking fans for not voting for the band in the audience poll.
However, when the news of Oasis’ induction broke in the early hours of April 14th, Gallagher was forced to backtrack in a slightly tongue-in-cheek way, as he posted on X: “Reverse psychology vibes in the area Oasis RnR hall of farmers I mean famers.”
He then subsequently also wrote: “I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of tame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream LG x,” with fans believing that he was somehow not quite serious about this.
However, when the Gallagher brothers rock up to accept their honour at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles this November, they will also be joined by a range of fellow stars including Collins, Sade, and Idol, who previously campaigned for his induction in 2025 as, “I’m fucking incredible”.
Elsewhere, a range of other icons will also join the class of 2026, including Iron Maiden, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division/New Order, who are being inducted as one act.
For Collins, it marks a second time around induction into the Rock Hall, as he previously received the honour as part of Genesis in 2000, but is now set to be awarded based on his own solo merits.
It marks a noteworthy year for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on a number of fronts, however, as six of the eight inductees are British. On top of this, Sade is the only female inductee of this year, falling behind the 2025 inductions when four acts featuring women made the cut.
Notable snubs from this year’s original list of nominees include Mariah Carey, Jeff Buckley, and Lauryn Hill.
