Morrissey cancels first two shows of 2026
Morrissey has begun 2026 by cancelling his first two shows of the calendar year in California.
The former frontman of The Smiths was due to kickstart his year with a performance in Rancho Mirage, California, which was cancelled a day before the performance.
While no official statement was made by Morrissey, a message on Morrissey-Solo reads, “Due to an adverse reaction to a prescription medication, the Morrissey concert originally scheduled on Saturday January 3, 2026 has been postponed.”
It continued, “Please hold onto your tickets as they will be honored for a rescheduled date. Should you wish to request a refund, please contact your original point of purchase.”
The San Diego Civic Theatre, where Morrissey had been due to perform on January 6th, later informed ticketholders that the event had been cancelled rather than postponed.
They wrote on Instagram: “Please note the Morrissey event scheduled for January 6 at the San Diego Civic Theatre has been canceled. Refunds are available via point of purchase.”
As it stands, Morrissey’s US tour is set to start on January 10th in San Antonio, Texas. He also has upcoming shows later this month in Oklahoma City, St Louis, Atlanta, St Petersburg, and Hollywood.
In November, Morrissey quietly cancelled his South American tour without giving an official statement. Additionally, he previously cancelled performances in Mexico City and Guadalajara, which were scheduled for October 31st and November 4th, respectively. Promoters cited “artist’s extreme exhaustion” as the reason for the cancellation.
In the summer, Morrissey axed a string of shows in mainland Europe due to exhaustion issues. At the time, he told fans that he was “travel weary beyond belief” and “can barely see” from travelling to six countries within the space of a week, before adding, “We have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zero music industry support.”
He will return to Europe for a headline tour in February, which includes a lone UK date at London’s O2 Arena on February 28th.
