Morrissey cancels South American tour
Morrissey has cancelled all shows on his South American tour.
While no official announcement has been made regarding the cancellation by the former frontman of The Smiths, but the ticketing websites for each of the shows have since been updated to inform fans that the shows will not be going ahead.
He was due to play Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 8th, before dates later this month in São Paulo in Brazil, Santiago in Chile, Lima in Peru, and conclude in the Colombian capital Bogota on November 22nd.
It comes after last week, when he cancelled performances in Mexico City and Guadalajara, which were scheduled for October 31st and November 4th, respectively.
Concert promoter, OCESA, confirmed that the shows would no longer be going ahead “due to the artist’s extreme exhaustion”.
It comes after his Turkish concerts at the Volkswagen Arena in Istanbul, as well as in Ankara at the ATO Congressium in December, were cancelled amid an online backlash following footage emerging of Morrissey performing draped in an Israeli flag in 2012.
In September, his North American tour was derailed when a 26-year-old man named Noah Castellano was arrested for sending him a death threat on social media.
Subsequently, his shows at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts, were cancelled for safety reasons.
Additionally, in late June and July, Morrissey cancelled a string of shows in mainland Europe due to exhaustion issues, which has also been the reason behind the axing of his South American concerts.
At the time, he told fans that “travel weary beyond belief” and “can barely see” from travelling to six countries within the space of a week. Morrissey added, “We have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zero music industry support.”
As it stands, his next concert is the Faliro Sports Pavilion Arena in Greece on December 12th.
