Morrissey cancels two US shows after death threats
Morrissey has cancelled two US shows after a man was arrested for making death threats towards the former Smiths singer.
The news was shared via his official Facebook page. The statement, posted on September 19th, read, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s engagement at Foxwoods has been cancelled. We appreciate your understanding.”
As a result, his shows scheduled at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on September 19th and at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 20th, will not go ahead.
On September 19th, it was announced that a 26-year-old man had been released on bail after allegedly making a threatening post to Morrissey on the social media platform, BlueSky. The post was written on September 4th, via the account named “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day”.
The threatening post reads: “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”
Despite the post, the show went ahead as planned, and no security threats were recorded. Morrissey played City Folk festival in Ottawa on September 10th, and also played shows in Toronto and Quebec.
Despite the upcoming cancellations, Morrissey’s ongoing world tour is still set to appear in Philadelphia next week before heading to Mexico.
In other Morrissey news, earlier this month the frontman revealed he was planning to sell his portion of The Smiths’ business interests. In a statement, he detailed his reasoning for placing his business interests on the market, writing, “I am burnt out by any and all connections to Marr, Rourke, Joyce. I have had enough of malicious associations.”
