Morrissey turned down offer to perform at Reform UK conference
Morrissey has revealed he turned down an invitation to perform at the Reform UK party conference in Birmingham.
The right-wing political party, led by Nigel Farage MP, held its annual conference at the NEC in Birmingham on September 6th and 7th.
Controversially, Dr Aseem Malholtra spoke at the conference and claimed Professor Angus Dalgleish told him that it’s “highly likely that the Covid vaccines have been a significant factor in the cancers in the royal family”. Reform UK have since distanced itself from Malholtra, who is an advisor to Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The party conference also hosted a performance from two members, Marlon and Jackie, of the Jackson 5, which was unannounced on the programming.
In a post on his website, Morrissey issued a statement on September 5th confirming that he’d been contacted to perform at the political party conference, which he rejected.
The statement reads, “Morrissey politely declined an invitation for ‘Morrissey and his band’ to ‘perform’ at this weeks’ Reform Conference in Birmingham. Morrissey is apolitical and has not ever joined a political party – or voted – in his entire life. He is thankful for the invitation.”
While Morrissey has never endorsed a political party associated with Reform UK leader Farage, he did say in 2019, “It’s obvious that he would make a good prime minister – if any of us can actually remember what a good prime minister is.”
Meanwhile, last week, Morrissey issued a separate post on his website, which revealed he was planning to sell his portion of The Smiths’ business interests. In a statement, he detailed his reasoning for placing his business interests on the market, writing, “I am burnt out by any and all connections to Marr, Rourke, Joyce. I have had enough of malicious associations.”
The singer instructed any serious investors to contact [email protected] to enquire about further information. Then, on September 5th, he revealed that the email had been switched off “due to the colossal response” from interested parties.
