Man arrested for sending alleged death threat to Morrissey
A Canadian man from Ottawa has been arrested for issuing an alleged death threat to former Smiths frontman Morrissey on social media.
Morrissey was recently in Canada to perform a series of dates, including at the City Folk festival in Ottawa on September 10th. The singer also played shows in Toronto and Quebec.
According to the Ottawa Citizen, a 26-year-old man has been released on bail after allegedly making a threatening post to Morrissey on the social media platform, BlueSky.
The publication states that court documents alleged Noah Castellano made the post online on September 4th, days before Morrissey was set to perform in Ottawa.
An account named “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day” reportedly made a post on September 4th that matches the description listed in the court documents.
The threatening post reads: “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”
Despite the threat issued on social media, Morrissey played the show in Ottawa, and there were no security issues at the concert.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Morrissey revealed he was planning to sell his portion of The Smiths’ business interests. In a statement, he detailed his reasoning for placing his business interests on the market, writing, “I am burnt out by any and all connections to Marr, Rourke, Joyce. I have had enough of malicious associations.”
The singer instructed any serious investors to contact [email protected] to enquire about further information. Then, on September 5th, he revealed that the email had been switched off “due to the colossal response” from interested parties.
