Megadeth detail new documentary, ‘Behind The Mask’

A new Megadeth documentary, Megadeth: Behind The Mask, will be screened worldwide on January 22nd, 2026.

The news comes as the band gears up for the release of their farewell, self-titled album, also set to arrive in January.

The movie will see co-founder and frontman of the band, Dave Mustaine, share untold stories of the past, as well as reveal what exactly is behind the creative fire that drives them.

Throughout the project, fans will experience the world premiere of the new album. The press release promises that the new music will be “brought to life with a 40-year retrospective career-spanning interview and Mustaine’s own track-by-track reflections about the band’s final studio album.”

The studio album will be released the day after the screening event. They have already put out the lead single from Megadeth, named ‘Tipping Point’, as well as a special cover of the classic Metallica song, ‘Ride The Lightning’, as a bonus track.

Mustaine has shared his excitement for the upcoming release, promising, “This listening event is going to be amazing.”

He added, “I can’t wait to share it with thousands of my closest friends around the world. I have so much gratitude for everyone who helped bring this film to life, especially you, the fans! Now let’s fire this up… and pass the popcorn!”

The one-night-only event will be an immersive celebration of the iconic band, looking back on an impressive legacy while heralding a powerful new chapter.

Following the release of the documentary, Mustaine and the rest of the band recently announced that they will travel to Canada for a run of 12 dates over the course of February and March next year, on top of their already packed schedule, travelling around North and Latin America in the summer.

However, as the screening event promises to tie their legacy into a neat bow, the thrash metal rockers aren’t quite done yet; Mustaine has previously explained that they could still be putting on shows for up to five years.
