Dave Mustaine says Megadeth’s farewell tour could last five years

Dave Mustaine has spoken about Megadeth’s farewell tour, admitting it could last for five years.

In August, the metal band confirmed news that they would release their last studio album in 2026, as well as plans to embark on a farewell tour and an autobiography from Mustaine that documents their story.

Their final album, the self-titled Megadeth, will arrive on January 23rd, 2026, and features their recent single ‘Tipping Point‘, as well as a version of Metallica’s ‘Ride the Lightning’ as a bonus track.

Additionally, they have confirmed a run of shows in South America in 2026 and will then be hitting the road across North America throughout the summer with Iron Maiden.

Notably, they are yet to announce details of a worldwide headline tour despite announcing their intentions to do so. However, Mustaine has now explained they plan to continue to tour for many years yet.

In a new interview with Kerrang, the former Metallica guitarist admitted, “We’re easily talking about touring for another three to five years.”

Mustaine, who is 64, added, “And if we’re going to be doing it for that long then, shit, I’ll be looking at the birthday I don’t even want to think about.”

He also explained why they are calling it a day, sharing, “I’m not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he’s in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself.”

Upon announcing their decision to end on their own terms, Mustaine previously told fans, “There are so many musicians who have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.”
