Megadeth add Canadian leg to farewell tour
Megadeth have added a Canadian leg to their farewell tour, extending their dates as promised to give their fans a huge goodbye.
Dave Mustaine and the rest of the band are set to travel to the country for a run of 12 dates over the course of February and March next year, on top of their already packed schedule travelling around North and Latin America in the summer.
However, this reflects the ethos of the farewell tour for the thrash metal rockers, because although they have announced their intention to eventually retire, Mustaine has explained that they could still be putting on shows for up to five years.
Despite this, the frontman was clear that the band will have to come to an end at some point, as he said in a recent interview with Kerrang: “I’m not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he’s in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself.”
In order for Megadeth to truly go out with a bang, they have also announced a forthcoming self-titled final album, set for release in time for the tour on January 23rd, 2026.
They have already put out the lead single from the Megadeth album, named ‘Tipping Point’, as well as a special cover of the classic Metallica song, ‘Ride The Lightning’, as a bonus track.
Although the band’s plans at present are to tour around America, Mustaine has admitted to having some pretty stratospheric ambitions for when Megadeth finally decide to call it a day. “I hope we’ll be playing up in space,” he said in a recent interview with Metal Hammer. “I think that will be a really fitting climax,” adding that he would only settle for “a full moon landing”.
Even though the frontman seems to have a fairly packed agenda, he has also unveiled plans, alongside Megadeth’s farewell, to release an autobiography to chart their story as rock titans over the years.
Tickets for the Canadian dates of Megadeth’s farewell tour will be available from November 26th at 10am local time and November 27th at 10pm local time, while general sale will go live from November 28th at 10am local time.
