DIIV announce new album, ‘ZIRP!’, produced by AG Cook

DIIV have announced their fifth studio album, ZIRP!, with PC Music founder and Charli XCX collaborator AG Cook on board as the producer.

The cult shoegaze band made the surprise announcement in a suitably unorthodox manner, after several fans received business cards in the post.

ZIRP! is the new album by music group DIIV,” the card read, adding, “October 30th, 2026,” and “Produced by AG Cook,” as well as “Fantasy Records” on the otherwise plain cutting.

On the other side of the card, DIIV had placed a QR code that leads to the band’s website; they also listed the phone number +1 229-798-9477.

When calling the number, a pre-recorded message announces that ZIRP! is “the future of alternative multimedia entertainment”.

In marketing speak, the statement revealed that the four-piece has set out to “challenge assumptions,” “create entirely new categories,” and “think on a global scale.”

ZIRP! will follow on from 2024’s Frog in Boiling Water, which received a glowing four-and-a-half stars from Far Out: “Frog in Boiling Water is exquisite, challenging, and constantly evolving, a fitting description of the band behind it. It’s the soundtrack of our times.”

DIIV previously opened up for AG Cook’s show at the Hollywood Palladium last December. The Britpop hitmaker adds this to a long list of collaborations he has been firing out recently, most notably on Charli XCX’s new album, Music, Fashion, Film.

On the project, Charli reserves an entire song to gush about her friendship with Cook, singing on ‘Magic Metal Montanna’ “Love your haircut, love your dance moves, love your girlfriend, I’d cry if you died.”

No word on ZIRP!‘s tracklist so far; the band also has yet to acknowledge the announcement. It marks an interesting pivot in the guitar band’s discography and likely spells a more electronic-leaning sonic investigation on DIIV’s part.

They recently completed a tour of Asia, which concluded at Soundrenaline festival in Jakarta on July 19th.
