DIIV was originally called Dive, but the band changed its name to DIIV to avoid confusion with the Belgian industrial group Dive. Founder Zachary Cole Smith previously played guitar with Beach Fossils before launching DIIV as his own creative project. DIIV's fourth album, Frog in Boiling Water (2024), received widespread critical acclaim for its politically charged themes and expansive shoegaze sound.
