Watch Dave Grohl cover Fear with Taylor Hawkins’ old band Chevy Metal
Dave Grohl recently made a guest appearance with his late bandmate Taylor Hawkins’ former band, Chevy Metal, in California.
Hawkins, who tragically passed away in 2022, co-founded the rock covers band in 2013 and would regularly tour with the outfit whenever his Foo Fighters schedule allowed him to. His son, Shane Hawkins, has since taken his place in Chevy Metal.
On August 31st, the group performed at The Canyon in Agoura Hills, California, and delivered a set packed full of rock classics, as well as special guests.
After getting the show underway with a version of Rush’s ‘Working Man’ followed by Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer’, Grohl and Fear’s Lee Ving entered the stage for a rendition of Fear’s ‘Beef Bologna’.
Other guests who joined them throughout the concert included The Cars guitarist Elliot Easton, drummer Gregg Bissonette, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, and former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach.
The show was then brought to a close with the assistance of Gene Simmons, who led Chevy Metal through covers of Kiss classics ‘Deuce’ and ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’, as well as Mötorhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’.
Foo Fighters are currently on a break from performing live, but have a set of dates planned in Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, and Singapore later this year. During their off-time, Grohl has popped up at SNL50 and FireAid with Nirvana, as well as with Kim Deal at her London show in June.
In July, Grohl celebrated the 30th anniversary of Foo Fighters with the release of their new single ‘Today’s Song’, as well as a reflective letter to fans looking back on their journey.
He poignantly concluded the letter by honouring Hawkins, writing, “And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
