Watch Dave Grohl join Kim Deal on stage in London to play ‘Gigantic’
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl joined Kim Deal on stage in London for a fierce rendition of the Pixies’ ‘Gigantic’.
Kim Deal was the original bassist and co-vocalist in the Pixies from 1986 to 1993 and from 2004 to 2013. She is the frontwoman of the Breeders, as well as a solo artist in her own right. When the audience arrived at London’s The Roundhouse in Camden, they would have expected a set containing mostly solo music, with a handful of the Breeders’ tunes sprinkled at the end for good measure.
This was largely what they got, until Deal finished performing the Breeders’ song ‘Off You’. As her nineteenth track, it was high time for an encore, but the musician had one more surprise up her sleeve. She welcomed Dave Grohl, a friend from the scene from tours in the early 2000s, to the stage.
“I’ll sing whatever you ask me to sing. I’ll do whatever you ask me to do,” Grohl joked to Deal’s delight. He promised to “hang out” with the star later, before the band launched into the huge tune.
Grohl seemed overjoyed to be on the famous London stage. Grohl had once named the Pixies album Surfa Rosa as one of his top ten favourite albums of all time. ‘Gigantic’ is the fifth track on the album.
In 2024, Far Out gave Deal’s first solo offering, Nobody Loves You More, three stars out of five, writing: “It’s a record that feels like an encounter with an old friend who has swapped their leather jackets for denim, whose eyes and handshake seem to have softened a little over the years, but whose smile has never changed.”
Dave Grohl has been extremely active in the industry as of late; on June 20th, he played drums on a song with Ed Sheeran for the F1 movie aptly titled F1 The Movie.
