Capacity revealed for Oasis reunion shows at Heaton Park in Manchester
After Oasis announced four shows at Heaton Park for the summer of 2025, the Manchester outdoor venue has revealed the capacity for the concerts.
Due to it being an outdoor venue, the capacity typically changes with each event. As the annual Parklife Festival has multiple stages, it has a capacity of 80,000 for each day of the event. However, when Courteeners first headlined Heaton Park in 2015, the capacity was only 25,000, but this was increased to 50,000 when they returned in 2019 and 2023.
Notably, The Stone Roses used Heaton Park as their Manchester venue when staging a comeback of their own for three shows in 2012, and it held 75,000 on each night for their residency. This figure is 5,000 more on a nightly basis than when Oasis performed three shows at Heaton Park in 2009.
However, Oasis look set to break The Stone Roses’ attendance record as Heaton Park will welcome 80,000 to each show, which equates to 320,000 revellers over the course of the four shows.
The capacity has been confirmed by Sacha Lord, the Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester. Lord revealed: “The Oasis reunion will create a hugely positive surge in hospitality. The impact of welcoming 80,000 people each night for the four planned gigs at Heaton Park cannot be underestimated and we are expecting an estimated benefit to the Greater Manchester economy of over £15 million across the four events.”
The Parklife Festival founder, who spoke exclusively to Far Out earlier this year, also shared why news of an Oasis reunion will be beneficial to Manchester’s economy, stating, “Events aren’t just about ticket sales, they have huge impacts on the local area and our hotels, pubs, bars, restaurants will all see the benefit, including extra hours for staff, as well as renewed global attention on the region and its cultural history.”
Oasis officially announced their comeback at 8:00am on August 27th after previously sharing a series of teasers on social media alluding to a reunion. In addition to announcing 14 shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland, they said in a statement, “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”
The run of dates will begin with a two-date residency at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff starting on July 4th before Oasis return home to Manchester to perform four shows at Heaton Park.
They are also booked to headline four dates at Wembley Stadium in London as well as host two concerts at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Additionally, the Gallagher’s will visit Ireland for a pair of concerts at Dublin’s Croke Park.
Demand for the announcement was strong enough to cause their website to crash, and tickets are expected to sell-out at a rapid rate. While it remains to be seen whether more shows in the UK will be announced for 2025, Oasis also plan to tour outside Europe later that year with concerts set to be revealed in due course.
Could Oasis play Glastonbury?
At this stage, no line-up has been revealed for Glastonbury Festival in 2025. However, the line in their statement, “It will not be televised”, suggests that fans won’t be able to see the show from the comfort of their own home, and need to experience a concert in the flesh. Therefore, this would rule Oasis out of the equation for Glastonbury, which is a televised event on the BBC.
In a further blow to their chances of Oasis headlining the Somerset event in 2025, their official social media accounts also said their newly-announced shows represent “the band’s exclusive European appearances”, which would make Glastonbury a non-starter.
While these statements from Oasis suggest they won’t be performing at Glastonbury Festival in 2025, few people would have foreseen their comeback only a few months ago, and nothing can be ruled out completely. As the festival takes place shortly before the start of the UK tour, Worthy Farm would be an ideal place to kickstart this new chapter of Oasis, and return with a bang.
