Oasis seemingly shut down Glastonbury rumours in reunion announcement

In a statement confirming their comeback, Oasis have seemingly shut down the rumours they will headline Glastonbury Festival in 2025.

Rumours began to circulate last week that Oasis would bury the hatchet for a reunion tour, but it has dominated the conversation and has transcended the music industry. During his headline set at Reading Festival on August 25th, Liam Gallagher stoked the fire by dedicating ‘Half the World Away’ to his brother, Noel, and declaring him as the “greatest songwriter”.

Shortly after leaving the stage, the official Oasis account on X posted a cryptic message declaring an announcement would be made on August 27th. The same post was then made on both Liam and Noel’s accounts on the same social media site.

As the whole of Britain waited in anticipation for the official announcement on August 27th at 8:00am, the official Oasis website crashed as it failed to cope with the immense demand to its servers before the news of their comeback was revealed.

The run of dates will begin with a two-date residency at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff starting on July 4th before Oasis return home to Manchester to perform four shows at Heaton Park.

The Manchester icons are also booked to headline four dates at Wembley Stadium in London as well as host two concerts at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

Additionally, the Gallagher’s will visit Ireland for a pair of concerts at Dublin’s Croke Park in August.

Will Oasis play Glastonbury?

Due to the extensive touring plans plotted for the summer of 2025 and the timing of their first Cardiff concert occurring shortly after Glastonbury, Oasis have been rumoured to headline Worthy Farm. However, this appears to be unlikely, as the band said in a statement about their comeback, “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

The final line referring to the reunion not being televised seemingly suggests that fans won’t be able to see the show from the comfort of their own home and need to experience the concert in the flesh. Therefore, this would rule Oasis out of the equation for Glastonbury, which is a televised event on the BBC.

In a further blow to their chances of headlining the Somerset event in 2025, Oasis’ official social media accounts also said their newly-announced shows represent “the band’s exclusive European appearances”, which would make Glastonbury a non-starter.

However, while these moves by Oasis suggest they won’t be performing at Glastonbury Festival in 2025, few people would have foreseen their comeback only a few months ago, and anything could happen. Other rumoured headliners for next year’s Glastonbury edition include Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen and Eminem. The festival is also due to not take place in 2026, which would rule Oasis out of headlining it the following year.

While no dates have been announced outside of Europe at this stage, Oasis is set to play shows on other continents later in 2025, which will be announced in due course.
