Art dealer reveals he’s zombie in ’28 Years Later’ trailer not Cillian Murphy

Following the trailer for Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, the sequel to his 2002 zombie horror film, many fans noticed a split-second shot of a zombie who looked very similar to Cillian Murphy, but now, it’s confirmed that it’s not the Irish star.

The actor starred in the original film, and many speculated that the uncanny zombie confirmed his appearance in the sequel. Murphy played Jim in 28 Days Later, a bicycle courier who wakes up from a coma to discover that London has been plagued by a zombie virus. While his character survives the first film, his character did not appear in the second instalment of the franchise in 2007, titled 28 Weeks Later.

The actor is involved in the most recent addition to the franchise as a producer, and after the appearance of a very similar-looking zombie in the trailer, it was widely viewed that this confirmed he would also be acting in the film.

However, The Guardian has revealed that the zombie was not Murphy but in fact, art dealer Angus Neill, who just happens to look very similar to the Irish actor.

When asked about his role in the film, Neill said, “Danny told me he’d always had me in mind for the role. So we met up, hit it off, and I agreed to take part. On set he has an extraordinary ability to hypnotise you, and working with him on the film was a very, very intense experience.”

What do we know about ’28 Years Later’?

The 28 Years Later cast is headed up by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, as well as Erin Kellyman and Jack O’Connell.

The story has been described as taking place three decades after the initial virus began spreading. It follows a small group of survivors who are living on a quarantined island and finding a way to live alongside the infected zombies. However, when one member of the group leaves on a mission to the mainland, he discovers a secret about how the other survivors and infected people have mutated.

The sequel will be split into three parts. The films will be written by original writer Alex Garland, who is also known for his directorial work on Ex Machina and Civil War. Nia Dacosta, who is known for the hit horror films Candyman and The Marvels, will direct the second part of the trilogy.

28 Years Later is set for release on June 20th, 2025.
