Yungblud makes heartfelt promise to honour Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy
Yungblud has shared another emotional tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne and vowed to honour his legacy at every show he plays by covering ‘Changes’.
The pair shared an extremely close relationship with Osbourne, alongside his wife Sharon, even making a cameo in the music video for Yungblud’s 2022 track, ‘The Funeral’. Yungblud also performed at Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert earlier this month, despite headlining a festival in Belgium on the same day.
Following the announcement of Osbourne’s death on July 22nd, Yungblud shared an initial tribute to the rock legend, writing as part of a lengthy message, “I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time.”
Now, Yungblud has shared a new message, which began: “I’m trying to compute the last couple days and honestly I’m absolutely fucking shattered. You have been my North Star for everything for as long as I can remember from when I was misunderstood as a child to the way people thought I was just a little ‘too much’ or ‘strange’ in my life and career.”
He then thanked the Osbourne family for believing in him when nobody else did, adding, “I owe so much to you, your wife and your family – you all gave me a road to run down and supported me when people would turn their nose up.”
Speaking specifically about Ozzy, Yungblud said the late Black Sabbath singer “loved life so much” and praised him for allowing him to understand “it was beautiful to be out of the box”.
The Yorkshire native continued: “I promise you with all my heart I will try my best and make it my life’s journey to keep the spirit that you started and what you have taught me alive. I will give it my best shot.”
Yungblud, who recently performed ‘Changes’ at Ozzy’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert in Birmingham, then reflected on the recent occasion, stating, “To sing this song for you at an event surrounded by legends inspired by you to a crowd that loved you was truly my life’s greatest honour and I vow to play this song every night for the rest of my life.”
He powerfully concluded: “You’re my hero in every regard. I hope you’re up there avin a drink with Randy (Rhoads). For the prince of darkness you sure brought all the light to the world. I love you Ozzy.”
Last week, before Osbourne’s death, Yungblud officially released his cover of ‘Changes’ on streaming platforms, with all proceeds from the track going to charity.
No cause of death has been revealed for Osbourne. However, it has since been reported that air ambulance paramedics spent two hours trying to save his life at his family home in Buckinghamshire, England.
