HBO has released the first five minutes of the new season of Euphoria ahead of the full release on April 12th.
Before the new clip of Sam Levinson’s hit show was released, it was revealed that Zendaya’s Rue is in debt to drug dealer Laurie, Hunter Schafer’s Jules is an art school student, Alexa Demie’s Maddy is an aspiring talent agent, and Maude Apatow’s Lexi is a showrunner’s assistant to Sharon Stone.
Additionally, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi’s characters are to be wed.
“A lot of people ask what I’ve been up to since high school. Honestly? Nothing good,” Zendaya’s character, Rue, reveals at the very opening of the new season, before a title card shares that she is “somewhere in Chihuahua.”
Viewers soon come to learn that Rue’s car is stuck in the desert. She is forced to rely upon a helping hand from a gaggle of strangers before she is on her way once more, driving maniacally as Christopher Cross’s 1979 tune ‘Ride Like The Wind’ plays.
Rue is carrying a curious bag in the back of her vehicle; she is seen attempting to drive her car over the top of a gate by some makeshift pillars put in place by a faceless man in exchange for the cash she hands him.
Throughout the first few minutes, she struggles to tip the vehicle over what appears to be the border between Mexico and the USA.
Abandoning the vehicle, she removes herself, along with the bag, and shimmies down the pillars.
Though the opening segment of the series focused only on Zendaya’s plotline, plenty of famous faces are set to turn up across the forthcoming eight episodes. The series will also welcome a host of new names, including Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, and Eli Roth.
However, some familiar faces won’t be returning. Storm Reid revealed in November 2024 that her character, Rue’s sister Gia, would not be featured in the new season. Additionally, Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, has since admitted that she left the show because “I wasn’t showing my potential as the actress that I know that I am.”
